Clarity is recruiting for an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist-ICU and Surgery - Band 8

Location: Lincoln

Department: Pharmacy

Salary: Band 8A, (£50,952 - £57,349)

Job Type: Full-Time

37.5 hours a week to be worked over 7 days

Job Summary:

As an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist specialising in ICU and Surgery at Band 8A level, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert pharmaceutical care and clinical leadership in intensive care and surgical settings. Your responsibilities include optimising medication regimens, ensuring patient safety, and enhancing the quality of care for critically ill and surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership: Provide clinical leadership and expertise in ICU and surgical pharmacy, guiding the Pharmacy Team, and working collaboratively with healthcare professionals in critical care and surgical units.

Medication Review: Conduct comprehensive medication reviews for ICU and surgical patients, optimising drug therapy regimens, monitoring for potential drug interactions, and ensuring evidence-based treatment.

Patient Support: Offer expert pharmaceutical care, educate patients on medication management, and address medication-related queries, especially in high-acuity situations.

Medication Safety: Lead medication safety initiatives in ICU and surgical settings, implementing error-reduction strategies, and monitoring adverse events.

Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and compliance with NHS and industry regulations. Develop, update, and enforce pharmacy policies and procedures as needed.

Clinical Governance: Engage in clinical governance activities, including research, audits, and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Collaboration: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including intensivists, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure integrated and coordinated patient care.

Education and Training: Provide education and training to healthcare professionals, including pharmacy staff, junior pharmacists, and clinical staff in ICU and surgery.

Documentation: Maintain accurate patient medication records and effectively use clinical software systems to track patient progress and medication administration.

Requirements:

Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Clinical Experience: Significant clinical experience, including a substantial focus on ICU and surgical pharmacy, as well as experience in a leadership or senior role.

Clinical Expertise: Proficiency in intensive care and surgical pharmacotherapy, advanced understanding of critical care and surgical protocols, and management of high-acuity patients.

Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including experience in managing and leading pharmacy projects and teams.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of NHS policies and procedures, pharmaceutical regulations, and clinical guidelines specific to ICU and surgery.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams, patients, and family members in critical care and surgical settings.

Commitment to Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, staying updated with industry advances, and participating in relevant continuing education.
