Salary: Band 8A, (£50,952 - £57,349)

Job Type: Full-Time, 37.5 hours a week over 7 days

Job Summary:
As an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist specialising in ICU at Band 8A level, you will hold a senior position within the pharmacy team, providing expert clinical pharmacy services to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. Your role is instrumental in optimising medication regimens, ensuring patient safety, and enhancing the quality of care for critically ill patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership: Provide clinical leadership within the ICU Pharmacy Team, offering expert advice and guidance to other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals working in the ICU.

Medication Review: Conduct in-depth medication reviews for ICU patients, optimising therapy regimens, monitoring for potential drug interactions, and ensuring evidence-based treatment.

Patient Support: Offer comprehensive pharmaceutical care to ICU patients and their families, providing information on medication management, potential side effects, and drug interactions in critical care situations.

Medication Safety: Lead medication safety initiatives in the ICU, identifying and mitigating potential risks and adverse events related to high-risk medications.

Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, including audits, reporting mechanisms, and the development of pharmacy policies and procedures specific to ICU and critical care.

Clinical Governance: Engage in clinical governance activities, including research, audits, and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care and outcomes within the ICU.

Collaboration: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including intensivists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure integrated and coordinated patient care in the ICU.

Education and Training: Provide education and training to healthcare professionals, including pharmacy staff, junior pharmacists, and clinical staff working in the ICU.

Documentation: Maintain accurate patient medication records and effectively use clinical software systems to track patient progress and medication administration within the ICU.

Requirements:

Qualifications: A Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent advanced qualification, along with registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Clinical Experience: Extensive clinical experience in ICU pharmacy, with a substantial focus on intensive care pharmacotherapy and experience in a senior or leadership role.

Clinical Expertise: Proficiency in critical care pharmacotherapy, advanced understanding of critical care protocols, and the management of high-acuity patients in the ICU.

Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including experience in managing and leading pharmacy projects and teams.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of NHS policies and procedures, pharmaceutical regulations, and clinical guidelines specific to ICU and critical care.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams, patients, and family members in the ICU.

Commitment to Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, staying updated with industry advances, and participating in relevant continuing education.
