On-Site Presence & Punctuality: Key Expectations for Locum Pharmacists

To help maintain the highest standards and ensure a safe, compliant, and smooth working environment, we want to gently remind all locums of two fundamental expectations: on-site presence and punctuality.

The Importance of On-Site Presence During Your Shift

One of the most critical responsibilities for any locum pharmacist is being physically present in the pharmacy throughout your scheduled shift. Unless pre-agreed with the supervising manager, leaving the premises during your shift is not permitted - particularly when you are the sole pharmacist on site.

Why is this so important?

  • Pharmacies cannot legally operate without a qualified pharmacist on the premises.
  • Even a brief, unapproved absence can disrupt operations and potentially put patient safety at risk.
  • Absences may result in regulatory breaches, with serious implications for both the pharmacist and the business.

If an emergency arises or you find yourself in a situation where leaving the pharmacy seems necessary, please notify both the store manager and our Clarity Locums support team immediately. We are here to support you and work towards a safe and professional solution.

Punctuality: Starting Strong, Every Time

In recent weeks, several clients have reported late arrivals for shifts. While we understand that delays can occasionally happen due to traffic or unforeseen events, consistently arriving on time is a basic - yet essential - standard of professional conduct.

Being punctual shows:

  • Commitment to patient care, by ensuring consistent and uninterrupted service.
  • Reliability, which clients notice and appreciate - and which strengthens your professional reputation.
