How to Ensure You’re Compliant with Scotland’s New Healthcare Requirements

If you’re currently working or planning to work in Scotland as a healthcare professional, there’s a key compliance update you need to be aware of.

From 1st April 2025, all healthcare professionals must be registered with the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in order to work in Scotland. This is not just a policy update—it’s a mandatory legal requirement set by Disclosure Scotland, and staying on top of it is essential if you want to continue working without disruption.

The PVG Scheme is designed to ensure that individuals working with vulnerable groups (such as children and protected adults) are suitable to do so. It’s a safeguard for both patients and professionals—and a key part of delivering safe, trustworthy care.

What’s Required from You?

The type of PVG check you need depends on your current membership:

If you already have a PVG that covers both children and adults, you’ll only need a Scheme Record Update, which costs £18.

If you only have a PVG Membership Statement, or your PVG doesn’t cover both groups, you’ll need a new PVG Scheme Record, costing £59.

How to Start Your Application?
